Support the Virgo Fidelis Cleaners!

In a not uncommon move, Virgo Fidelis School changed suppliers for its cleaning contract in 2019.

The cleaning contract is now with Ridge Crest Cleaning, who have tried to enforce illegal changes to cleaners’ terms and conditions.

Needless to say, cleaners at the school are not putting up with this. But Ridge Crest has been intimidating cleaners who resist the changes, for example by disciplining those who refuse to accept the increased workloads.

Because of this unprecedented behaviour, Virgo Fidelis School’s cleaners have voted to take industrial action, and will be going on strike on April 1st and 2nd 2020.

What can you do?VF Strike flyer 0.6 back

The best strikes show that the cause is supported by the community. Not just to make a point, but to share solidarity and strength with the cleaners whose lives are affected by these large subcontract deals. Come and join us whenever you can on 1st and 2nd April at the picket line, at 147 Central Hill, Upper Norwood, SE19 1RS.

The strike will be running from 14:00 to 18:00 on these dates.

If you cannot attend on these days, you can still support us! It helps to tell both the school and the company that members of the public, and especially those involved with the school, want to see all workers respected and treated fairly. You can contact the school at office@virgofidelis.org.uk. Ridge Crest can be reached via Twitter at @cleaningridge

And finally, strikes cost money, through wages lost, and resources spent organising, preparing and distributing materials. If you can support the campaign financially, it will really help.
