CAIWU (Cleaners & Allied Independent Workers Union) is proud to have participated in the recently concluded Glastonbury Festival 2024, staffing and performing in collaboration with Somos Semillas, Expresión Inka and Movimientos London at Terminal 1, a new area dedicated to celebrating the modern-day travelling community—migrants.

Terminal 1, built from salvaged parts of Heathrow’s demolished first terminal, offered an immersive art experience, nightclub, print shop, and formal garden. An international roster of artists, including Adrian Paci (Albania), Jacques Nkinzingabo (Rwanda), and Miguel Hernando Torres Umba (Colombia), reinterpreted the airport experience to reflect contemporary issues. Highlights included an air traffic control tower that marshaled global bird migration and a Rwandan duty-free store.

Festival-goers experienced an atmosphere resonating with the sound systems of Notting Hill and St. Paul’s Carnival, creating a joyous and challenging experience. This space without borders celebrated our shared humanity under the unified message: "no human is illegal."

If you want to go fast—go alone. If you want to go far—go together. - Rwandan Proverb
