Who Needs Housekeepers? Strike Postponed

PLEASE NOTE: THE STRIKE AND PROTEST AT HSBC HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR THE TIME BEING. WATCH HERE FOR FURTHER UPDATES AS WE GET THEM.

So… Who does need housekeepers? Certainly not the cleaners working for ISS at HSBC in Canada Square.

After years of running down the cleaning service to the point of collapse, ISS decided they had to fix it. But they didn’t get more cleaners, like you might have expected. Instead, they decided the solution was more supervisors.

So they brought in lots of new staff to check up on the cleaners. They put the new workers in smart uniforms and called them housekeepers. The result is not enough cleaners to do the job properly. Instead, there are lots of spies with nothing to do except report to the supervisors about every little thing. And if that wasn’t bad enough, ISS is refusing to provide a contractual sick pay scheme. And it’s refusing to formally recognize CAIWU.

No one could work under those conditions. The cleaners have tried talking to ISS, but ISS wouldn’t listen. So they’ve decided to go on strike.

Their message to ISS is a simple one:

IF YOU WANT BETTER CLEANING, GET MORE CLEANERS
